Fashion Forward Fashionistas!

Hello Ladies of the 21st Century!
(wannabe ladies of the 19th century!)

I am currently studying fashion design at Palomar College and I am in love with every minute of every class!
Today I had my History of Costume class...which took me 45 minutes to get to because of the early morning traffic! Bleck, ghetto.

Anyways, we learned about the Crinoline Period today, which was absolutely amazing!
The way they dressed back then is the way I wish we all dressed now!
Who needs stupid jeans and Tee's?! Although, they are quite comfy :)

I'm pretty obsessed with anything Victorian and Vintage, so today was awe inspiring for me.
I am hoping to find old vintage wedding dresses and cut them and piece them together to make my own wedding dress!

Here are some of the items that inspires me from to Crinoline Period
(wedding style)

boots from 1871 (made in USA)

Image: Circular and tiered skirted evening dress with halter neck, made of white cotton broderie anglaise and black and white woven cotton gingham. There are three tiers in the skirt: the smallest checked gingham is at the top; then the medium sized; finally the largest check is at the bottom tier. There are bands of applied woven braid - showing stylised insects – all around the dress at the waist line and where the tiers join together. (picture: Mandy Reynolds)
(in all white)

hoop skirt (1800's)

vintage sleeves :)

wedding headband

The hoop skirt came about in the 1800's and is something I hope to have in my wedding dress!
Women wore 7 different layers of clothing during this time:
drawers
chemise
corset
corset cover
hoop skirt
petticoat
2 piece dress

Talk about being way too hot!
Beauty was definitely a burden for those classy women.

I hope that I can piece together a dress that consists of all of these pieces!
That would be a wedding dress dream come true :)
Let me know if you know of any more cool spots that have vintage dresses that I can rip apart!

XOXO!

And the Sewing Begins!!!

Project #1
Jean Skirt with pockets!

I turned in my first project for my advanced sewing class and I only missed one point!
My skirt was in the top 5 that she showed to the class as the best!
You can't see the sweet vintage button, but it adds the nice old fashioned flare to it that it needed.

I can't wait to start making garment appropriate clothes for my fellow mo mo's!
LDS Fashionista, here I come!
xoxo!
