Itch the Industry

The history of fashion as we know it had been placed before us since the beginnings of Coco and Christian.

The Little Black Dress vs. The Bar Suit!
How about we combine the two: The Little Black Bar Dress!?

New Look 2012
If only I had their mad tailoring skills.
Sewing is underway...but I shall never beat the great Coco or Christian!

My new favorite garment is swirly petties!
I'm bringing them back...

This is the way i'm going to dress from now on.
Dresses and skirts with poofy swirly petties!
Screw jeans and tee's!

And the best part about this style....

Fashion Forward Fashionistas!

Hello Ladies of the 21st Century!
(wannabe ladies of the 19th century!)

I am currently studying fashion design at Palomar College and I am in love with every minute of every class!
Today I had my History of Costume class...which took me 45 minutes to get to because of the early morning traffic! Bleck, ghetto.

Anyways, we learned about the Crinoline Period today, which was absolutely amazing!
The way they dressed back then is the way I wish we all dressed now!
Who needs stupid jeans and Tee's?! Although, they are quite comfy :)

I'm pretty obsessed with anything Victorian and Vintage, so today was awe inspiring for me.
I am hoping to find old vintage wedding dresses and cut them and piece them together to make my own wedding dress!

Here are some of the items that inspires me from to Crinoline Period
(wedding style)

boots from 1871 (made in USA)

Image: Circular and tiered skirted evening dress with halter neck, made of white cotton broderie anglaise and black and white woven cotton gingham. There are three tiers in the skirt: the smallest checked gingham is at the top; then the medium sized; finally the largest check is at the bottom tier. There are bands of applied woven braid - showing stylised insects – all around the dress at the waist line and where the tiers join together. (picture: Mandy Reynolds)
(in all white)

hoop skirt (1800's)

hoop skirt

hoop skirt with dress

vintage sleeves :)

wedding headband

The hoop skirt came about in the 1800's and is something I hope to have in my wedding dress!
Women wore 7 different layers of clothing during this time:
drawers
chemise
corset
corset cover
hoop skirt
petticoat
2 piece dress

Talk about being way too hot!
Beauty was definitely a burden for those classy women.

I hope that I can piece together a dress that consists of all of these pieces!
That would be a wedding dress dream come true :)
Let me know if you know of any more cool spots that have vintage dresses that I can rip apart!

XOXO!

And the Sewing Begins!!!

Project #1
Jean Skirt with pockets!

I turned in my first project for my advanced sewing class and I only missed one point!
My skirt was in the top 5 that she showed to the class as the best!
You can't see the sweet vintage button, but it adds the nice old fashioned flare to it that it needed.

I can't wait to start making garment appropriate clothes for my fellow mo mo's!
LDS Fashionista, here I come!
xoxo!

Syob

He shut the door on me 4 times...regret is all that fills his soul.
The handle is wiggling, but I have locked it.
Do I dare open it once more?
What a sucker I would be, re-opening a wounded sore.
A new door has opened.
Light is shinning through.
Only time will tell.
:)

Open the door for those that want all of you, forever, just the way you are, the first time the door is open. Don't let anyone shut the door 4 times and then want it open again.
We are elect ladies.
Let yourself be treated like one.

Here is an excerpt from Your Happily Ever After By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf (Second Couselor in the First Presidency in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) May 2010:

Isn't it remarkable to know that our eternal Heavenly Father knows you, hears you, watches over you, and loves you with an infinite love? In fact, His love for you is so great that He has granted you this earthly life as a precious gift of “once upon a time,” complete with your own true story of adventure, trial, and opportunities for greatness, nobility, courage, and love. And, most glorious of all, He offers you a gift beyond price and comprehension. Heavenly Father offers to you the greatest gift of all—eternal life—and the opportunity and infinite blessing of your own “happily ever after.”
But such a blessing does not come without a price. It is not given simply because you desire it. It comes only through understanding who you are and what you must become in order to be worthy of such a gift.

Trial Is Part of the Journey

For a moment, think back about your favorite fairy tale. In that story the main character may be a princess or a peasant; she might be a mermaid or a milkmaid, a ruler or a servant. You will find one thing they all have in common: they must overcome adversity.
Cinderella has to endure her wicked stepmother and evil stepsisters. She is compelled to suffer long hours of servitude and ridicule.
In “Beauty and the Beast,” Belle becomes captive to a frightful-looking beast in order to save her father. She sacrifices her home and family, all she holds dear, to spend several months in the beast’s castle.
In the tale “Rumpelstiltskin,” a poor miller promises the king that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king immediately sends for her and locks her in a room with a mound of straw and a spinning wheel. Later in the story she faces the danger of losing her firstborn child unless she can guess the name of the magical creature who helped her in this impossible task.
In each of these stories, Cinderella, Belle, and the miller’s daughter have to experience sadness and trial before they can reach their “happily ever after.” Think about it. Has there ever been a person who did not have to go through his or her own dark valley of temptation, trial, and sorrow?
Sandwiched between their “once upon a time” and “happily ever after,” they all had to experience great adversity. Why must all experience sadness and tragedy? Why could we not simply live in bliss and peace, each day filled with wonder, joy, and love?
The scriptures tell us there must be opposition in all things, for without it we could not discern the sweet from the bitter.2 Would the marathon runner feel the triumph of finishing the race had she not felt the pain of the hours of pushing against her limits? Would the pianist feel the joy of mastering an intricate sonata without the painstaking hours of practice?
In stories, as in life, adversity teaches us things we cannot learn otherwise. Adversity helps to develop a depth of character that comes in no other way. Our loving Heavenly Father has set us in a world filled with challenges and trials so that we, through opposition, can learn wisdom, become stronger, and experience joy.
My dear young sisters, you need to know that you will experience your own adversity. None is exempt. You will suffer, be tempted, and make mistakes. You will learn for yourself what every heroine has learned: through overcoming challenges come growth and strength.
It is your reaction to adversity, not the adversity itself, that determines how your life’s story will develop.
There are those among you who, although young, have already suffered a full measure of grief and sorrow. My heart is filled with compassion and love for you. How dear you are to the Church. How beloved you are of your Heavenly Father. Though it may seem that you are alone, angels attend you. Though you may feel that no one can understand the depth of your despair, our Savior, Jesus Christ, understands. He suffered more than we can possibly imagine, and He did it for us; He did it for you. You are not alone.

May we always remember this ladies, fore we are princess and we will find prince charming if he has not yet found you!
Boys:Syob
They will come and go, but don't let them tell your your not good enough. And don't let them dump you 4 times and then want you back again.
Your prince charming will come, after we make it through adversity (stupid boys)!
Don't give up princesses.
XOXO!

Intended Inspiration; Medicine @ Its Finest

Here are some things that inspire me on a daily basis...

Bikes
Farmer's Market
Vintage Fashion
Vintage Photography
Jesus Christ
 My Dad
My Mom
 My Family
My Friends

My Childhood

These things get me through life's toughest challenges. I am who I am because of where I have been, what I have been and whose I have been. Inspiration is medicine at its finest. Remember the moments in your life that have defined you! Life is passing us by each day, we can't let life get ahead of us. I like to live my life by one simple quote:

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today."

Groucho Marx

The man says:
"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana."
Couldn't agree more.

I have been experiencing this feeling with time these last few weeks.
ITS SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS!
I don't know where the time has gone.
I haven't blogged in a few weeks...haven't gone to the gym either.
No wonder I feel MUSHY.
ZUMBA has left my weekly schedule!
It was supposed to happen today, but I saw this with Kassy's mama instead.

I HIGHLY recommend this to all ages.
FYI: You will cry.
Thanks to the little old witch, I am now inspired to take a wood working class this fall.

This is what the rest of my day consists of...

Anthropology is eating my brain.
 Cheez-Its are filly my belly.
Strawberry lemonade is puckering my lips.
This day is a sweet one :)

Until Hco ruins it...

XOXO!

City of Sin:Vegas Adventures

HEY FRIENDS!!!
We made it to Vegas and back!
Sorry I didn't post anything while I was gone.
It cost $10 for 24 hours of internet use at our ghetto hotel.
But that's what we get for paying $51 for two nights.
Anytime someone asked where we were staying I said:
"Oh, you know, The Piece if Shh.."
CUZ IT IS!
Take a look...

Never stay here.
It was also $20 a night for a freaking fridge.
I was pretty PISSED.
The tub didn't drain, the carpet was coming up, the wallpaper was peeling off and the doors didn't lock...
you can only imagine.

And this is our gorgeous view...might as well be a FREAKING jail house...

This was the carpet on our floor...BLECK!
This brings Hideous to a new level.
At least choose one style so it matches folks.

After we checked in, we ran up to our room (after getting lost 12 times) and got ready to head to the Strip...

to strip!
Not....
But really, I wore black pants and boots..I was about to strip cuz it was 103 degrees.
What on EARTH was I thinking. I wasn't. The heat was getting to my brain and fusing all of my focus cells.

Welcome to the janky elevator...
took a few tries to get a solid photo because it was SO FREAKING JANKY!

The Bellagio is remarkable.
There is a water show in front every 30 minutes.
Reminded me of the World of Color at Disneyland, but not as wondrous.

This is my best friend Kassy inside the Bellagio Gardens.
The one place that didn't smell of cigars and smoke and vomit.

Those are real flowers!
.
The set up was super cute.
There were hot air balloons, a light house, a carousel, lady bugs, etc.

Good thing the hotels blasted the air conditioning, cuz my outfit was melting off my body.
I have to say that the heat at night was a bit comforting.
I would sell all of my sweaters if I ever had to move to Vegas.

Los Tacos
DELICIOUS!
Everyone needs to have one.
Drive out to Vegas for Los Tacos and then drive back. Its all you need.

There are real Chilean flamingos at the Flamingo Hotel :)

We treated ourselves to Kobe Sushi & strawberry mochi our first night in Vegas...2nd fave sushi place of all time. Happy Sushi in Oceanside is my #1

That is the phantom mochi right there.
It supposed to be pink but my flash killed it.

The famous Stratosphere!
If only it was a cheap ride...it cost $23 because they charge you for going up the tower if you aren't staying in their hotel. We ALMOST did it. The guts were there, just not the bills.

People were bungee jumping off the very top!
Good thing we had just eaten. It made for a good excuse not to do it.

Insanity
The green claw that spins at the top.
So desperately wanted to go on it...but so not worth the money.

Ceiling inside the Venetian...jaw droppingly gorgeous!

This is in front of the Venetian. My fave hotel besides the Bellagio.
(Kassy)

 (Me)

ZEUS! I think..Or perhaps King Triton!?
So many awesome statues surrounding Caesar's Palace near the Forum Shops.
There was a naked Greek man statue that I wanted to get a picture of but boys were having more fun taking pics with it than the girls. In fact, I didn't see any girls taking a picture with it...go figure.

Caesar is all decked out for EDC!

Statue Monument inside Caesar's Palace

New York New York
Cute itty bitty Statue of Liberty!

Eating lunch at Johnny Rockets while Kassy did a quick change from out of her dress and into her Love Pink shirt and shorts. She was literally a walking billboard for Victoria Secret.
(her purse was love pink as well :)
Everyone we walked passed made a comment about how they "love blue" or inserted another color instead of pink.
She was quite a hit!

 Then she changed again...
She took the shorts off and put this cute green skirt on.
This marks her 3rd outfit for the day.
In essence she was stripping all day long!
She wouldn't wear this on a daily basis mind you, but she wanted to look more modest while on the temple grounds.
I had to take a picture of her because it was so funny.
Yes, that is a slurpee.

We found it!
The Las Vegas Nevada Temple!
Refuge from the City of Sin.

It was good to get away from the strip and rest our feet.

 Holiness to the Lord
The House of the Lord

(Me)

(Kassy)

At the end of the day, despite us wearing shoes, our feet came out like this...

 OGAR DIRTY!
Freakin bum city.
FYI: Don't wear flats.

We were entirely tired from strolling the strip for 11 hours so what do you do!?
FACIALS!
(Hideous, I know, but it was part of our adventure so I had to post it.)

Brunch @ the Mon Ami Gabi Paris Hotel
A great place to people watch and relax with a nice glass of lemonade :)

This is the salad I ordered, recommended by our server.
The only salad that beats the Yellow Deli's Chef Salad.
(probably because it was 10 bucks where as the deli's is 5 bucks)

 (Mon Ami Gabi)
Can't resist a French cafe!

We ended the 3 day trip with thrift shopping @ Deseret Industries!
Probably the most exciting part of the whole trip :)
I spent $30 on 10 items!
That's not even worth one item at H&M.

A reception shortly followed our DI adventure, after which we headed to our final stay at a friends in Henderson.
We had to be up at 4:30am to make it back in time for our church meetings at 11am....
But a freaking aluminum can on a string kept hitting our window (don't ask me how it got there), so sleep was not in the cards.
4:30 came super quick...
BUT WE MADE IT BACK TO CALI!

I'll post my DI finds tomorrow!

XOXO!
